About Circuit Muse

We exist to help people understand themselves better and build the lives they actually want to live.

Our Story

Circuit Muse began with a simple observation: most personal development advice is either too superficial to create lasting change or too academic to be practically useful. People were caught between motivational platitudes and dense psychological textbooks, with little in between.

Founded in 2014, we set out to bridge that gap. Our founder, Dr. Elena Hartwell, spent over a decade in clinical psychology before recognising that many people seeking support didn't need clinical intervention—they needed psychological insight applied to everyday challenges.

What started as individual consultations evolved into a comprehensive approach combining one-to-one work, structured programmes, and group workshops. Over the years, we've worked with over 500 individuals, from professionals navigating career transitions to people rebuilding their lives after significant setbacks.

The name Circuit Muse reflects our belief that personal growth is both systematic and creative. There are patterns and principles we can understand and apply, but the path forward always requires individual interpretation and adaptation.

How We Think About Change

Understanding Precedes Change

Before you can effectively change something, you need to understand why it exists. We spend time exploring the function of your current patterns, not just labelling them as problems to fix. This understanding becomes the foundation for sustainable change.

Context Matters

What works for one person in one situation may not work for another. We don't believe in universal solutions. Instead, we develop strategies that fit your specific circumstances, personality, and constraints.

Small Changes Compound

Dramatic transformations rarely come from dramatic actions. They come from consistent small shifts that accumulate over time. We focus on sustainable changes you can maintain, not heroic efforts that burn out quickly.

Resistance Is Information

When you resist doing something that seems beneficial, that resistance is telling you something important. Rather than pushing through, we explore what that resistance reveals about your needs, fears, or values.

Our Working Principles

01

We Start Where You Are

No assumptions about what you should want or how you should change. We begin by understanding your current reality and what matters to you, then build from there.

02

We Challenge Constructively

Support doesn't mean agreeing with everything. When we see patterns that seem to work against your stated goals, we'll point them out. But we do so in service of your growth, not to prove a point.

03

We Teach, Don't Just Tell

Our goal is to help you understand the principles behind what we're doing so you can apply them independently. We're not creating dependency; we're building capability.

04

We Measure What Matters

Progress isn't always linear or obvious. We regularly review what's working, what isn't, and adjust accordingly. If something's not helping, we change approach.

Our Methodological Foundation

Our work draws from multiple psychological traditions, integrated into a coherent and practical framework.

Cognitive-Behavioural Psychology

The relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours forms the core of much of our work. Understanding and shifting these patterns creates tangible change in how you experience and respond to situations.

Acceptance and Commitment

Not everything can or should be changed. We integrate principles from ACT to help you clarify values, develop psychological flexibility, and move toward what matters even in the presence of difficult thoughts or feelings.

Developmental Psychology

Current patterns often have roots in earlier experiences. Understanding this developmental context helps explain why certain responses feel automatic and provides insight into how to create new patterns.

Positive Psychology

While we address difficulties, we also focus on building strengths and enhancing wellbeing. Research on resilience, meaning, and flourishing informs our approach to sustainable development.
